The Glow Up

September 17, 2018

About a year ago, I found myself at a crossroads. Busy, but not productive. Booked, but not fulfilled. My time, money, and energy wavered constantly. I was chasing money instead of purpose, and it seemed like the more I chased money, the more money ran from me…In time, it was no mystery why I seemingly felt out of purpose. I found myself at a place where I had no idea what to pursue; everything I pursued robbed me of peace.

So, what did I do? I joined a local community of entrepreneurs hoping to find some inspiration, and a new sense of direction. After attending a Corner to Corner Academy session with guest speaker, Mignon Francois of The Cupcake Collection,  I very quickly discovered that my purpose had been with me all of my life. My purpose was in my name! In addition to encouraging emerging entrepreneurs to use faith as currency, and seize opportunities with the mindset that all things are possible, Mignon also encouraged us to find out the meaning of our names.

Fiery beacon; a source of light and inspiration.

It is often expressed through deep desire to utilize abilities in leadership and through the role of a visionary. Characterized as creative, and excellent in expressing self.

Whooooooaaaaa! Right! Like, if you know know me, know me, than you are probably just as floored as I was about the accuracy! I mean, if that doesn’t make you want to not name your baby Courvoisier or Hennessy, I don’t know what will! *inserts shrug*

Anyway, since that time, I have been before God wrestling through what I thought my life should look like by now and how I thought I’d get there versus accepting the life He has called me to, and allowing it to unfold. He has since brought me back to 3 words He spoke to me about 10 years ago: writer. speaker. teacher. With this reminder, I’ve learned that my platform begins with writing; my writing is my oil . It’s the the thing within me that will overflow and provide more than enough (see 2 Kings 4); more than enough opportunities to speak, more than enough opportunities to teach. My writing creates a pipeline for all my dreams and visions to manifest.

So now, my question to you is, “What is your oil?” What has God placed within you that will serve as the pipeline for dreams and visions to manifest? What will cause the ultimate glow up?

Like Mignon, I encourage you to discover the meaning of your name. Then, spend time praying and reflecting about how you can authentically live that out in the world for the glory of God, fulfillment of self, and the good of others.

So, HEY! I’m Brandi! You can call me B, the light! Welcome to my new blog!

This space is dedicated to helping young women leaders shine bright in life and leadership, and highlighting others who do the same. B the light will serve as resource for such women who are seeking to build esteem, deepen relationship with Christ, and align professional goals with purpose.

I consider it an honor and a  privilege to share my own journey and process of spiritual, personal, and professional development in the weeks to come. Meanwhile, I’ll leave you with this quote from my latest book, Legs Down, Prayers Up:

The once clouded, distracted, wayward, frustrated, and incomplete girl, is now a clear, focused, directed, peaceful, fulfilled woman.”

Shining Bright,
